A beginner's guide to joining a gym in Hyderabad

6 min readUpdated 20 Aug 2026

Walking into a gym for the first time is the hardest rep of the whole journey. This guide breaks down how to choose a club in Hyderabad, what your first fortnight should actually look like, and the handful of habits that decide whether you are still training in six months.

Pick the club on coaching, not equipment

Every gym in Gachibowli has racks, plates and treadmills. What separates clubs is whether a coach corrects your hinge before you load it. Ask on your trial: who is on the floor at the hour I train, and will they write me a plan?

  • Visit at the exact hour you plan to train — that is the crowd you will live with.
  • Ask about coach-to-member ratio on the floor, not total staff count.
  • Check the recovery, changing and hygiene areas; they decide consistency more than dumbbells do.

Your first two weeks

Week one is about turning up, not intensity. Three full-body sessions, each 45 minutes, built around a squat, a hinge, a push, a pull and a carry. Week two you repeat the same sessions and add a small amount of load or one extra rep per set.

Soreness is normal for the first four to five sessions. Pain that sharpens during a movement is not — flag it to a coach immediately.

How to combine classes with the floor

Group classes give you a schedule and a crowd; the gym floor gives you progression. Most beginners do best with two coached strength sessions and one or two conditioning classes each week.

Track three numbers, ignore the rest

Sessions attended per week, weight on your main lifts, and waist measurement. The scale swings daily with water and salt — these three tell the truth over a month.

FAQs

How many days a week should a beginner train?
Three sessions a week is the sweet spot for the first two months — enough to progress, few enough that life does not derail it.
Do I need a personal trainer to start?
Not necessarily, but four to eight PT sessions at the start pays for itself in technique and confidence, and it makes every later session more productive.
