Personal training vs a gym membership: which should you pay for?

The question almost every enquiry starts with: do I just need gym access, or do I need a coach? The answer depends far less on your budget than on how long you have trained and how reliably you turn up on your own.
What a membership actually buys
A membership buys access, equipment and a room full of people doing the same thing. That is enough if you already know how to squat, hinge and press safely and you have a plan you trust. At RYZE it also includes your orientation session, a written plan in the member app and group classes.
What personal training adds
Coaching adds three things a membership cannot: technique correction in real time, a program adjusted every week to your recovery and schedule, and an appointment you feel obliged to keep. Personal training at RYZE starts at ₹6,999 a month for eight one-to-one sessions, and hybrid gym plus PT plans start at ₹8,999.
- Complete beginner: 8–12 PT sessions pays for itself in technique alone
- Returning after injury or a long break: coached, always
- Experienced lifter chasing a specific number: PT in short blocks
- Consistent self-starter: membership, with a PT check-in each quarter
The cheapest option is the one you use
A ₹1,500 membership used four times a year costs more per session than PT used weekly. Before comparing prices, be honest about how many times you trained last month.
How most of our members do it
The common pattern is a hybrid: two coached sessions a week for the first two to three months, then step down to membership plus one PT session a fortnight once the lifts are solid and the habit is set.
FAQs
- How many PT sessions does a beginner need?
- Eight to twelve sessions is usually enough to learn the main lifts and build a plan you can run yourself.
- Can I try a single PT session first?
- Yes. A single PT taster session is ₹999, and the free trial already includes a coached workout on the floor.
